An intimate, immersive Lanna-style celebration at a private family home surrounded by the mountains and rice fields of Northern Thailand — the village where Jantima's mother was born, and where Jantima spent many of her summers growing up.
Before the wedding festivities begin, we'll be taking a trip to the nearby mountain town of Pua to pick up traditional Lanna outfits for the ceremony.
Pua is one of our favourite towns in Nan province — known for its beautiful mountain scenery, slow pace, local cafés, and traditional textile shops. Guests joining the ceremony are warmly welcome to come along for fittings, outfit pickups, coffee, and a wander around town.
Expect a relaxed morning with mountain views, good food, and a little adventure before the celebrations begin.
Shuttles depart from Pua and Nan City accommodations. Guests are welcomed at the family compound with refreshments, flowers, and the sounds of the village waking up.
Buddhist monks from the local temple perform a traditional blessing for the couple and the gathered family — chanting, sacred water, and the binding of the sai sin thread.
Lanna TraditionThe groom and his party make their way to the bride's home in a joyful procession — met at a series of symbolic gates guarded by family members, each requiring a small offering or challenge before passing through. A moment equal parts ceremony and celebration.
Gate ParadeA long, generous lunch with Northern Thai dishes prepared by family — laab, khao soi, sai oua, sticky rice, and more. Eaten together around the family compound.
Northern Thai FeastGuests are invited to return to their accommodations to rest before the evening. Shuttles will run throughout the afternoon.
Return to the family home for an evening dinner under string lights and the mountain sky. Tables full of food, wine, and laughter.
DinnerThe night goes long. Live music, dancing, and the kind of celebration that only happens once.
Dance Floor OpenA traditional Northern Thai (Lanna) wedding is deeply communal — it unfolds at the family home and involves the whole village. Don't be surprised if neighbors you've never met are offering you food. The monk blessing is a quiet, meditative beginning; the Gate Procession that follows is its spirited opposite. Dress modestly for the ceremony (shoulders and knees covered), then feel free to change for the evening celebration. Traditional Lanna attire — cotton phrae wa shirts or pha sin wrap skirts in muted, earthy tones — is warmly encouraged. We'll share sourcing suggestions closer to the date.

Nan is one of Thailand's most beautiful and least-visited provinces — getting there is an adventure in itself. Here's everything you need to know from the US.
Fly from JFK or EWR to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK). Common routing: one stop through Tokyo (NRT), Seoul (ICN), Taipei (TPE), or Doha. Thai Airways, EVA Air, Korean Air, and Qatar offer good options.
Book 3–4 months in advance for best fares.
Fly Bangkok → Nan direct (Bangkok Airways, ~1 hr 15 min) or Bangkok → Chiang Mai (~1 hr) then Chiang Mai → Nan (~50 min).
Alternatively, fly to Chiang Mai and take the chartered shuttle on December 17, or hire a private van (~5–6 hr scenic drive).
If you're traveling all the way to Northern Thailand, we highly encourage you to spend a few extra days exploring Nan province. It's one of the quieter, more laid-back parts of Thailand — filled with mountains, rice fields, winding roads, cafés, temples, and small towns that move at a much slower pace.
Nan is less touristy than Chiang Mai or Phuket — which is part of why we love it so much. The pace is slower, the scenery is beautiful, and it's the kind of place best enjoyed without too much of a plan. Search "น่าน" on YouTube for a glimpse of what awaits.
